The Cubs made the Yu Darvish signing official today, holding a press conference at Sloan Park to introduce their newest pitcher to the frothing rabble of assembled media. Darvish seemed at ease sporting his brand new No. 11 jersey, addressing questions with the help of an interpreter.
He was quick with the jokes, responding to a question about playing with Chris Gimenez by saying that he likes Willson Contreras better. Darvish even talked about the reports that he had hoped to return to LA, saying that Clayton Kershaw was the first person other than family he spoke to about signing with Chicago. He also said that he called Dave Roberts and told his former manager that his goal is to beat the Dodgers.
