The Cubs added a couple familiar names to their front office Friday. Chris Denorfia has been named Special Assistant to the President/GM and Matt Murton has been named a Baseball Operations Assistant.
Denorfia, 37, played in 103 games for the Cubs in 2015, his only season with the club. He also appeared in seven of the Cubs’ playoff games that year.
Murton, 36, was a part of the Cubs organization from 2004-08, appearing in 308 games at the MLB level from 2005-08. Murton also played for the Hanshin Tigers in Japan’s NPB from 2010-15, before re-joining the Cubs organization for the 2016 season (he played 76 games for AAA Iowa).
