CI Recap (3/26/18) – Red Sox 4, Cubs 2: Mini Fenway is Nice Too

Most of the Cubs regulars had their final dress rehearsal Monday night against the Red Sox in Ft. Myers. Yu Darvish pitched briefly as the rest of the starters survived the game in one piece (whew). (Box score)

Why the Cubs Lost

Carl Edwards Jr. had control issues, walking two in the bottom of the 7th inning. Two runs would score in the frame to give the Sox a 4-2 lead.

Key Moment

Javy Baez doubled into the left-center gap to score Victor Caratini in the 2nd inning. The two-bagger put the Cubs ahead 2-0.

Stats That (Don’t) Matter

  • Darvish only went three innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits with a walk. He didn’t have a strikeout, which is something that won’t happen much at all this season.
  • Kyle Schwarber had two more hits and showed impressive speed moving from 1st to 3rd on a single. Have to feel pretty good about War Bear going into Thursday.

  • Justin Wilson gave up a double to start his inning of work, but struck out two to escape without allowing a run.

Bottom Line

Victor Caratini had a throwing error on a toss back to the pitcher that allowed a run to score after a collision at the plate. Luckily, Caratini was okay and the rest of the Cubs also escaped injury. The next game most Cubs starters will play will actually count.

On Deck
