Update: There are some pretty nasty thunderstorms in the St. Louis area and the game has been delayed. The weather is supposed to continue through around 9pm local time, so this one might be postponed.
I’ve got a big family gathering going on this weekend, so I’m going to keep this as simple as possible and just let things breathe. The Cubs have won seven in a row to climb above .500 for the first time since May 6 and make talk of a postseason run seem entirely realistic. Five of those wins have come against the Cardinals, who are sending the corpse of Adam Wainwright to the mound tonight.
Waino has been nothing short of awful this year because he can’t miss bats and he’s giving up a ton of hard contact. While there still might be a little magic left in that right arm, there’s zero excuse for the Cubs not to beat up on him.
Jameson Taillon has been pitching much better of late and he picked up a W the last time out against the Cards by scattering seven hits and walking just one. More of the same would be nice. That starts with Mike Tauchman leading off in center a day after his humble heroics, then it’s Nico Hoerner at second and Ian Happ in left.
Cody Bellinger is at first, Seiya Suzuki is in right, Dansby Swanson is at short, and Christopher Morel is the DH. Yan Gomes is catching and Nick Madrigal is starting at third base for the first time since hitting the IL back on July 3.
First pitch is at 6:15pm CT on Marquee and 670 The Score.
Here is tonight's #Cubs starting lineup for game three in St. Louis!
